The neighbourhood: Clerkenwell is located in the borough of Islington. It was an ancient parish in medieval times. Clerkenwell is named after a well where Parish clerks would hold biblical plays. Most notably, this area was home to London’s Little Italy from approximately 1850 to 1960. The community still exists, though much smaller, and is based around St. Peter’s Italian Church with street fairs taking place in July. This area of Clerkenwell is just five minutes off the eccentric Old Street. Nearby restaurants and pubs include Central Street Café, Food 52, Palatino Restaurant, The Corner Bar, and a Chicken and chip shop. Try the likes of Arancini Brothers for Vegan, Jane Roe Kitchen, Thai City, or Look Mum No Hands! in the Old Street area.
