Right as reign
Built in 1850, and having once been occupied by a 19th century brewhouse-owner, this five bedroom, five bathroom family home comes from very good stock indeed. Situated on a row of huge, stucco-fronted villas, Dawson Place reigns supreme as one of the grandest streets in the area, take time out to marvel at the architecture and further abroad, check out Notting Hill’s world famous markets, bars and bistros. Returning to Dawson Place after a day’s touristic delights you’ll find the perfect blend of modern family comfort and aristocratic English charm waiting behind the doors.
Your hosts are an Irish couple who have three children, and when they’re not in London they’re heading back to rural Gloucestershire where they spend half their time. The home overflows with classical, opulent design and high-end antiques, so it will not surprise you to hear that the father of the home works in finance.
Get red carpet sensations as you step inside Dawson Place and notice the high ceilings and stucco work which pervade throughout this stunning home. Catch your breath in the TV room on the ground floor, before nipping into the high spec kitchen for some epicurean indulgences. Dine looking out over the lush garden or retreat to the grand dining room, where the family can be entertained around the long table.
Heading to the frankly spectacular drawing room, you’ll feel like you’ve walked into a life size version of a perfect Victorian dolls’ house, complete with baroque antiques, marble fireplace, gilt mirrors and a chandelier. While away the time tinkling the ivories of the grand piano, or enjoy a game of chess on the glass-topped table. After a post-dinner brandy, retire to one of three classically-decorated twin bedrooms, the spacious double ensuite, or, the split level master suite. Here, preen yourself in the walk in wardrobe, spread out in the massive marble bathroom, or curl up in the crisp linens of the king size mahogany bed.
Dawson Place holds a royal seat just a stone’s throw from Portobello Road, making it one of the most highly-coveted residential areas in the city. On a sunny day, picnic in elegant Kensington Gardens, or have a peek inside the local institution, Alice’s Antiques. If it happens to be pouring down, take the eight minute tube ride into central London and shelter in Selfridges.
