In 2023, the Pope’s Grotto will be open to the public more frequently. If you are staying in serviced apartments in Richmond, and your stay coincides with an open day, then it’s well worth coming to see this 1720 grotto in Twickenham.

In Teddington, you can find the Landmark Arts Centre which always has a varied programme of exhibitions, events and workshops. It’s a wonderful community and it’s definitely worth checking out what’s on.

It’s easy to dismiss non-central London locations when it comes to museums, but you mustn’t overlook the incredible museums in Richmond. Fascinating museums in the borough include the World of Rugby Museum (at Twickenham, of course!), the Twickenham Museum, Museum or Richmond, Langdon Down Museum and the Eel Pie Island Museum.

Ham House and Gardens is a wonderful National Trust property in Richmond. Described as a 17th century treasure trove, this is a wonderful property to explore. The Cherry Garden is particularly delightful and The Plats are well worth a visit in spring when the crocuses, tulips and wildflowers transform the lawns.

Richmond is famous for its park and it’s easily reached by foot from the town centre. The views are lovely, especially from Richmond Hill, and the deer are the stars of the show, but you should also come here to enjoy the woodlands, ponds and other wildlife that the park has to offer. Bring a picnic!

Summer visitors to Richmond looking for an authentic English experience should pack a picnic and come and watch cricketers on the green at Richmond Green. There are lots of pubs around the Green, so you can also grab a pint and watch the world go by.

There are too many great pubs in Richmond to list them all. However, we recommend trying out true British pub life at the following establishments. The White Cross has a fantastic beer garden overlooking the River Thames. The White Swan Pub is wonderful, particularly if you visit when the wisteria is blooming and you walk down Old Palace Lane to get there. The Cricketers is a very old inn overlooking the Green. The Roebuck gives excellent views from Richmond Hill. The Pitcher & Piano is a chain pub but does have great views of the river.

Hugely popular with locals with good reason, the food is rustic but delicious and very authentic.

A Bavarian joint on the river, expect lots of beer and hearty food.

For delicate and vibrantly spice food, enjoy Diba – a cosy restaurant with an intimate feel.

For outstanding cocktails and contemporary food you’ll remember, you need to try Rock and Rose.

Gaucho is an Argentinian steakhouse on the riverside which is elegant and suitable for a special night out.
