While we may perceive many pop-up shops to be a masquerade for temporary bars that don’t want anyone over the age of 30 cramping their style, London does in fact have many welcoming of families. Although the incredibly popular Harrods Grotto is already booked up, there are still plenty of other places with which you can form a basis for a festive long weekend with the children. Below you will find 5 of the best. Keep in mind that these are extremely popular events, so you are advised to plan and book your tickets and apartment in London as early as possible.

Clapham Common gets its first ever ice rink this year thanks to Winterville. Sip mulled wine at the Street Feast and enjoy a movie at the fully heated enchanted forest at their Backyard Cinema. They have a variety of entertainments available at the Spiegeltent ranging from brass bands and kids’ raves to Mexican wrestling and choirs. London’s ‘alternative’ Christmas festival also features a Wasted Chic Christmas Market, a UV Indoor Golf Course, fairground rides, and a funky Roller Disco. Entry is free most of the time.
Skylight Ice Skating
Were you thinking that a photo of your clan ice skating against a stunning London skyline backdrop would make an ideal family Christmas card? If you weren’t then you should be, as Skylight have transformed a rooftop into an ice rink for the winter. For only £10 you’ll get 45 minutes of flip, lutz and axel practice, and their cheese fondue is a highly recommended treat for afterwards. Please be aware that due to it being a popular drinking establishment children are not allowed after 6PM.
Pop-Up Screens
Taking up temporary residence in several locations in Hackney, Pop-Up Screens provide a great magical atmosphere in which to watch some classic festive films. Screenings include Home Alone, The Grinch, White Christmas and A Muppets Christmas Carol amongst others. To really get in the merry mood however, you’ll probably want to see the showing of Disney’s Frozen. The festive cinema season kicks off with Elf on the 8th December.

Greenwich Winter Time
If you’re still hungry for more Christmas cheer then the Greenwich Wintertime Festival is sure to fill you up. Theatre events, live music, a silent disco, street performers and even ‘London’s specially curated ‘’most instagrammable’’ winter market’ pretty much guarantees that even the most bah-humbug of people will be leaving in festive spirits. After such stimulating days out the last thing you need is to be cooped up with excitable children in a small hotel room.
