Planning a London staycation with the family? Want to know the best places to eat for fuelling days of sightseeing and providing entertainment? Read on to discover 10 family restaurants in London that will amaze the little people and the bigger ones in your party. We’ve even given ideas of where to stay for each restaurant.

1. Heddon Street Kitchen, Piccadilly Circus

Vibrant and stylish, Heddon Street Kitchen is excellent if you want to avoid ‘kids food’ as adults but know that your children will be happy with the grub. This is a Gordon Ramsay restaurant so you can be sure of stylishly served adult mains such as beef wellington or sea bream.

But there’s a huge draw for kids too beyond their own inspiring menu: the ice cream bar. Kids can have fun building their own cones, designing their own ice cream sandwich or stocking their wafer basket.

When you’re fuelled up, Hamleys toy store is just 10 minutes’ walk.

Where to stay: Choose accommodation in Soho, St James’s or Mayfair. For example, stay at No. 5 Maddox Street.

2. Archipelago

Do you have a daring wannabe jungle explorer in your midst? Are your family fans of I’m a Celebrity and fancy a food trial without quite such a high ranking scare factor? If you think your kids will get excited by the thought of tasting exotic food such as kangaroo, crocodile or python as well as the odd cricket, then Archipelago is for you. For a dining experience to remember, this is where to go. Perfect if you’ve been visiting the BT Tower too. Madame Tussauds isn’t too far either. This is definitely one of the quirkiest family restaurants in London!

Where to stay: Stay in Fitzrovia, Marylebone or south of Regent’s Park. A great place to stay for families is 48 Newman Street.

3. Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.

Snuggle up in your serviced apartment after a day of sightseeing to watch Forest Gump and then head out for a themed dinner at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Everyone loves this feel good restaurant and you can all dive in to family platters of shrimp in its various forms. Of course there are options like macaroni cheese if your little ones aren’t fans of the crustacean! Round it off with a fabulous ice cream sundae and everyone’s a winner.

Where to stay: Stay near Piccadilly Circus or Leicester Square. Soho will work too. Be Chinatown is a perfect place to stay for lots of the family restaurants in London’s Leicester Square area.

4. Rainforest Café

The Rainforest Café is a London favourite with children. They adore watching the waterfalls, hunting down the animals and even spying the real tropical fish on display. That’s before you get started on the menu which comes complete with a jungle themed activity pack.

Where to stay: Enjoy a stylish stay at Shaftesbury Avenue Chic apartments or one of our other family friendly apartments in Soho or Covent Garden.

5. Red Farm

If your kids have built up an appetite at The London Transport Museum then dip into Red Farm for some childhood-centred feasting. Little and big kids alike will delight at the Cantonese fast-food dishes that appear in vibrant and fun designs. Pac-Man shaped dumplings? Yes please! The toys lining the walls will keep little minds entertained while waiting too.

Where to stay: Stay in Covent Garden, such as at Covent Garden Floral Chic.

6. Inamo

There are two Inamo branches: one in Covent Garden and one in Soho. Both are amongst our favourite family restaurants in London, particularly for older tech-savvy kids and teens. The Asian food, such as yakitori and sushi are big hits, but so are the interactive tables.

Where to stay: There is an Inamo in Covent Garden and one in Soho. For the Covent Garden branch a good place to stay is Burleigh Mansions.

7. Giraffe

On holiday but still want to make sure your kids get a healthy veggie packed meal? If so, then you’ll want to track down one of the Giraffe restaurants where you can be sure the fabulous food sees them wolfing down their greens. The Victoria branch is perfectly located for many theatre shows.

Where to stay: London Giraffe branches are at the Southbank Centre, King’s Cross and very close to Victoria Station. Giraffe is great for cheap and tasty kid’s breakfasts too, so pop out from a stay at the Victoria Apartments.

8. All Star Lanes

There are a number of All Star Lanes bowling alleys dotted around London and they all have one great thing in common: excellent family restaurants. Keep the whole family entertained with a game and after a strike or two make sure everyone is happy with American diner style food in a fun and vibrant atmosphere.

Where to stay: You’re never too far from an All Star Lanes. We love Stratford staycations, and you can give the kids loads of room to explore and play at the Olympic Park. Stay at the Stratford Apartments or any of our other Stratford properties.

9. Poppies Fish and Chips

Staying in London demands a night of fish and chips and there is no better place to enjoy this classic British fare than at Poppies Fish and Chips. There are a number of branches but we think the Camden branch is brilliant for a family staycation. If your child is feeling adventurous they can even try the London classic of jellied eels! What’s great is that you’re not too far from Regent’s Park and the world famous ZSL London Zoo.

Where to stay: You can stay in Camden, Soho or Spitalfields to visit a Poppies branch. If you’re looking to stay in Camden, what about the Camden Cosmos?
